Wikidata Edit-a-thon

Wikidata is a vast, interconnected knowledge network linking more than 120 million data items on people, institutions, and museum collections. It has become an invaluable resource for scientific research and for exploring the history of science.
The Museum für Naturkunde Berlin and its collections encompass over three centuries of material, gathered by a wide range of agents from across the globe. These individuals were part of complex human networks that shaped collecting practices, expedition routes, and the eventual destinations of specimens. Wikidata offers a powerful way to uncover these connections and to make visible the often-overlooked human stories behind scientific collections.
Curious to learn more? Join the upcoming WiNoDa Edit-a-thon, dedicated to the collectors of the Arachnida and Myriapoda subcollection of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, which brings together the contributions of more than 800 individuals.
Participants will gain hands-on experience editing Wikidata in a friendly, collaborative setting while actively contributing to an open knowledge infrastructure. The event also provides an opportunity to connect with others interested in museum collections, biodiversity data, and the history of the natural sciences, fostering exchange and collaboration around shared research interests.
Participation is free of charge; however, the number of participants is limited to 30 persons.
