[Webinar] Data journals: How to publish my data and get recognition for it

Modern research is all about data. However, in spite of the great effort that researchers put into collecting it, a lot of it gets “lost” when not included in a journal publication. Data publication can be a solution to such data loss; this research activity aims at maximising the discoverability of scientific datasets and provide credit and incentives to those sharing them. The sharing of data can provide great benefits to the wider scientific community, such as preventing the duplication of experiments with negative results, therefore saving time and resources, or allowing new research questions to be explored, using data collected by other colleagues, and even carrying out meta-analyses by pooling together different datasets.
Therefore, data journals are becoming increasing more relevant for scientists’ careers and research effort. We invited Guy Jones, editor of the interdisciplinary journal Scientific Data (Springer Nature), to share his experience and explain how data journals work, including their aims, content, peer-review process, ethics, and technical workflows within the wider landscape of open science and the FAIR principles.
