[Online Training] Mapping Evaluation in Public Engagement: From Idea to Structure

December 11 @ 10:00 - 13:00 CET

Evaluation and impact are everywhere — but what do they really mean for researchers and museum professionals engaging with the public?
In this interactive online training, we’ll unpack the key ideas behind evaluation and explore how to move from intuitive impressions to a clear, structured approach.

Drawing on a real case study from the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, we’ll reflect on evaluation practices and work together to create our own evaluation plans. Our expert, Anastasia Voloshina, digital curator of the BROMACKER Project, media artist and visual expert, will share how evaluation has been embedded in the project’s communication strategy and what lessons have been learned from 5 years of running a large paleo research project with an interdisciplinary team of over 40 people, and engaging the public with its research outcomes.

What you will learn:

  • What evaluation is and why it matters for your project, team, and organisation
  • How to formulate evaluation questions and design your own evaluation plan — including aims, outputs, outcomes, indicators, and methods
  • Common evaluation methods and tools — and how to choose the right one
  • How to use evaluation to improve activities, share good practice, and report outcomes for accountability and learning

Who should join?

Researchers (especially in the natural sciences), museum professionals, citizen scientists — and anyone eager to bring data and research to life beyond academia. Expect a supportive, hands-on format with real-world examples, peer exchange, and expert feedback.

Accessibility and Support

We are committed to making this program accessible to everyone.

  • Our trainings take place on Zoom, and we will introduce accessibility features such as captions at the beginning.
  • The trainings use interactive methods, including breakout rooms. Throughout the sessions, you have the option of using a quiet space instead of joining a breakout room.
  • We are using Miro as an interactive tool in the workshops. There will be a short introduction, but we can offer additional support if needed.

If you have specific needs or concerns, feel free to contact Katja Loginova, our Public Engagement Coordinator at katja.loginova@mfn.berlin

We’ll keep you updated with new sessions and information throughout the year.

All trainings are held in English.
