About WiNoDa

Scientific collections contain a large amount of research data that can be used to answer fundamental questions about the history of the earth and human history. In the project WiNoDa (Knowledge laboratory for natural science collections and object-related data) we are developing a data competence center focused on the research of scientific collections and enables researchers to optimally utilize and explore these collections in the future.

The aim of WiNoDa is to establish a data competence center for interdisciplinary research by building a data infrastructure and providing specialized educational content and formats. The WiNoDa Knowledge Lab provides broad access to scientific collections and data and imparts the necessary expertise to evaluate and analyze this data effectively. Additionally, WiNoDa promotes networking among researchers, small and medium-sized enterprises, and the involvement of society in data-driven science related to research collections through public engagement and open science.

WiNoDa is a collaborative project of the following institutions:

Museum für Naturkunde Berlin

German Archaeological Institute

GFBio – German Federation for Biological Data

Open Access Brandenburg

Head Office of the GBV Common Library Network

Zuse Institute Berlin

The project WiNoDa is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the Research Data Action Plan. This is part of the Federal Government’s data strategy and aims to strengthen data competences in science and support researchers in their work with data.
